Winter CERT class begins January 18, 2012, and the graduation date is March 14, 2012.

Imagine having prayer warriors, healing ministers, chaplains, and counselors on the front lines of a community emergency. To do that we need North Heights members to be CERT trained. Nearly 50 members have already been CERT trained and we are looking for 50 more. Yet, each offering of the class is limited to the first 25 registrants, so signing up in advance is necessary. CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. The current nine-week training session began on Wednesday, September 14 for applications processed last August.
Here is how it works: If available, emergency services personnel are the best trained and equipped to handle emergencies and you should use them. However, following a catastrophic disaster you and your community may be on your own for a period of time because of the size of the area affected, lost communications, and unusable roads. CERT training is designed as a partnership between emergency services and the people they serve. CERT members are trained, trusted, and called upon by emergency services.
Already, North Heights CERT members have been utilized by Ramsey County to respond to numerous emergencies. We are on the front lines in our community--but would like to double that presence.
Training consists of nine weeks of emergency preparedness on the following topics:
- Disaster Preparedness
- CERT Organization
- Fire Safety
- Light, Search, and Rescue
- Disaster Psychology
- Disaster Medical Operations, Part 1 & Part 2
- Terrorism
- Final Exercise/Graduation
